EMTAHEN -JCI Internship Scheme
01/05/2009 to 01/08/2009
JCI Aleppo has recently launched its new
business area project entitled EMTAHEN. EMTAHEN aims to promote the internship
concept as an important HR tool for companies and a career seeking tool for students. EMTAHEN started as a pilot project in Aleppo
offering 60 students from different academic backgrounds a paid internship
opportunity in their field of study in relatively big and important local
companies for a period of two months. The 34 project team members started the preparatory
phase of the project by contacting big local companies from different sectors
(e.g. pharmaceutical, food, hospitality, institutions, banks, schools, etc. ...)
to explain to them the importance of having an internship policy. Meanwhile, visits
to private and public universities located in Aleppo were scheduled in the aim to
promote the project amongst students. In the pilot session, 60 interns will be
recruited for a two month training period in the participating companies (from
1 July to 30 August). These interns will be chosen from an online database of
applications submitted by applicants through the project website
(www.emtahen.com). The programme is open to young people aged between 18 and 26
years old who have finished their first academic year up to fresh graduates who
have not graduated more two years ago and have not worked in a paid position
for more than 3 months in their field of study. The online application is divided into two
stages (the first is an electronic CV, and the second is a mini interview with
5 questions to be answered by the applicant). The selection process, which begins
on 15 May, is also divided into 2 stages, the first is conducted by the project
team members to filter the applications by matching the applicants' situations
to the criteria and the second is by the hosting company. Each company will view all the applications
to select the one(s) most suitable to their needs. NB: in both stages, personal information such
as name, gender and contact details will remain undisclosed to give equal opportunities
to all applicants. To ensure high operation standards, insurance
against work accidents will be granted to all interns. Special training will be
delivered to all mentors who will supervise the interns during the internship
period. An introduction of the programme
will be given to the interns in the first two days of the internship. EMTAHEN has gained the attention of a lot of
companies, press and local bodies. During the first week of its launching, more
than 24 press articles were published in newspapers and news websites covering details
of the programme. Large interest in the project has encouraged consideration to
implement EMTAHEN at a national level for the second session. Hopefully, The
graduation of 60 interns at the conclusion of the first session, will be an
opening for a national session recruiting a higher number of interns from all
across Syria. Visit the official website of EMTAHEN: www.emtahen.com
