What is Candidate Membership?

Junior Chamber is a voluntary organization and, as such, there are no firm commitments in terms of the actual time input that members have to contribute.

However, as with many other organizations, the benefits that members reap are partially dependent on the amount of effort that they put in. If members do not get involved in activities- be that at a local, regional, national or international level- they cannot hope to benefit from the many opportunities that membership can offer.

When a new application is delivered to JCI Syria, it is subject to review and approval of JCI Board. Once approved, JCI office will contact the applicant to inform him/her about JCI registration fees and give him/her JCI Syria Starter Kit. The applicant will be also invited to attend JCI New Members Orientation. Attending this Orientation is a preliminary condition for admission. If not able to do so, the applicant has the right to miss one session only, provided that he/she attend the next coming one. Failing to comply with this condition will end in rejecting the application. In that case, JCI registration fees will be refunded, if already paid, and the candidate must return back the receipt to JCI.

On joining JCI Syria, the new member becomes a "candidate member". This is, in effect, a "test period" to allow new members to experience all the different elements of Junior Chamber to see which ones interest them most. This will help them make an informed choice about which aspects they want to get most involved in. It also encourages chapters to ensure that their local programs provide a variety of opportunities for members both new and old.

To qualify for full membership, candidate members are asked to undertake the following:
â€¢	Attend four meetings in at least two different areas of opportunity AND
â€¢	Undertake four activities from a list agreed between the candidate member and the Commission Director.
The time period in the which the above should  be completed can vary from four weeks (for members who get involved very quickly) up to three months(for those whose diary does not permit a regular attendance).

On completion of the above, the candidate member is then entitled to full membership.
N.B: all the above is subject to discussion with the LOM president.

The areas of opportunity referred to above include the four formal areas i.e. Business, Individual, Community and International. An example of four events might be: listening to an external speaker training on a certain issue, taking part in a company visit, attending a planning meeting for a forthcoming event and meeting fellow members in any social event.

The activities that are available will be partially dependent on the program that the local region offers. They include: getting more involved with a particular project, helping with internal and external publicity, introducing their employers to Junior Chamber etc. One event can include more than one activity so a member might attend an event being organized by a nearby chamber, stand up and introduce himself/herself for two minutes and then write an article for the Chapter's local newsletter. These are 3 activities from one event.

Once individuals have qualified for full membership of JCI Syria, there are two further awards that we encourage members to attain as they help to further demonstrate involvement.
â€¢	Level 1 Achievement Award is for all members within their first twelve months membership.
â€¢	Level 2 Achievement Award is for those who have been members for two or more years.

Annual Subscription

Our annual Subscription fees are 2,000 SYP. The due amount can be paid either when submitting the new application or after attending the new Members Orientation,
